The capital campaign successfully raised over $2 million to construct our new facility. When we opened the adoption center, the volume of incoming animals needing care significantly accelerated. We encountered the challenge that we needed the additional space quicker than the campaign was raising money.
Because of the quickly rising need, Lakeland took out a mortgage for the remaining construction costs – approximately $1 million. This allowed construction to continue and quickly complete the new facility. Lakeland is now supporting a significantly larger population of pets seeing forever homes.
The wonderful help to the homeless pet community has resulted in another challenge for Lakeland Animal Shelter. A monthly mortgage.
We have set an ambitious goal. Lakeland would like to pay off the 15-year mortgage in two years. Our mission will be to fully repay our construction debt by May 2022! This means we need you. We need to raise an additional $10,00 per month between now and May 2022.
